Half Rupee, Bhutan, 1835-1910 Portuguese India These notes were printed byHalf Rupee copper coin of Bhutan, from 1835 1910 era. These are hand struck (hammered) coins, with Buddhist symbols on both sides. Bhutan relied on barter system till the 18th century, and adoption of coinage started in the late 1700s. These coins are similar in size and design to the coins of Cooch Behar, on which they were presumably based. However, while Cooch Behar coins were silver, these coins are copper.
